Meagan Palmer

Meagan Palmer has more than 30 years of experience in human-resources and learning/development leadership, much of it spent with Mecklenburg County, N.C., government.
In 1989, Meagan started her career with Mecklenburg County as a Child Protective Services social worker. In 1991, she was promoted to supervisor and managed employees of the Department of Social Services until 2003, including the establishment of the first Community Social Work program in the county. Because of her expansive knowledge of the Mecklenburg County community and government, she was appointed to lead a cultural-change effort in the Department of Social Services, Service Excellence, to improve Quality Customer Service, Quality Employee Experience, and Quality Business Processes.
Meagan’s initiative, influence, and facilitation skills prompted her appointment to Mecklenburg County Human Resources in 2005 to partner with all county departments in developing employees and leaders and improving employee processes. She has demonstrated competence and versatility, engaging all leaders. Meagan retired from Mecklenburg County in July 2019 to begin her own leadership development business, Meagan Palmer Consulting.
Since retiring, Meagan has provided training for AlexanderHancock Associates, the City of Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, and Mecklenburg County. Her primary work since the pandemic has been facilitating meetings for Mecklenburg County, including the COVID-19 Task Force, Board of County Commissioners’ Retreat, and Budget Public Engagement Workshops. Most recently, Meagan contracted with the Mecklenburg County Manager’s Office to facilitate the Behavioral Health Strategic Planning process.
Meagan is a certified trainer, facilitator, and administrator of the top leadership development programs in the country, such as FranklinCovey, KenBlanchard, VitalSmarts, Emotional Intelligence, and DiSC Communication Styles. Her facilitation skills have helped teams improve communication, accountability, and collaboration.
What sets Meagan apart is her no-nonsense, bottom-line approach in getting results through helping others build more effective relationships. She uses humor, directness, and agility to engage others in methods to set and achieve goals.
She earned her bachelor’s and her M.S.W. from the University of Georgia, which provided the foundation for her ability to relate to a variety of people in different aspects of life.
