Jerry Hancock

Jerry Hancock has more than 40 years of experience in the field of communication. He has worked with dozens of organizations, and hundreds of individuals, in the areas of interpersonal communication, group dynamics, team skills, creative strategic thinking, presentations, mass media, marketing, sales, advertising and public relations.
He is an experienced manager, having managed production, operations, and start up projects at commercial broadcasting firms. He also managed the Community Development function of the Greater Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, where he worked closely with community business leaders, managed projects, and conducted training. In addition, he owned and operated his own advertising and public relations firm, training senior executives in dealing with the Media.
Jerry is particularly skilled in developing consultative selling skills and in helping organizations build high performance teams. He is successful in helping managers, professionals, and teams at all levels develop collaborative work practices, negotiate mutually successful agreements, resolve conflict, analyze and solve problems, and improve presentations. He is also an accomplished speaker.
Evidence of Jerry’s creative approaches can be seen in AlexanderHancock’s training designs and techniques. His credits include being a guest commentator on “All Things Considered,” National Public Radio, and the publishing of numerous journal articles. For over 25 years he hosted programs on public television. Jerry is well known in Charlotte as the host of FINAL EDITION on Channel 42, a weekly roundtable discussion of current news topics with local reporters.
Jerry has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is a graduate of the Institutes for Organization Management, University of Georgia. He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the American Society for Training and Development. He is also a founding member of Searchnet, a non-profit network of professionals committed to helping communities build consensus through future search conferences.
His professional training includes workshops on Systems Thinking; workshops on managing Future Search conferences led by Marvin Weisbord, author of Productive Workplaces and Discovering Common Ground; and workshops on organizational change led by Edgar Schein, PhD, author of Process Consultation and other books.
Jerry has been involved in a variety of community organizations, including the Board of Directors of The Relatives, an agency serving troubled teenagers and their families; The Carolina Raptor Center, a wildlife center dedicated to the preservation of birds of prey; and the Lake Norman (NC) Chamber of Commerce. He is also the Executive Director of a non-profit he formed, Men in Balance, whose mission is to help men in their spiritual development.
